Program Description - Grades 4 & 5

Students in grade 4 and 5 participate in the EEC program in the traditional format.  The program has relocated to the Centerville Elementary School.

Program Description - Grade 3

We have updated our model in grade 3 for EEC this year to better meet the needs of our students and to provide equity and access to more of our students.  The changes were made as a result of the work of a team of teachers and administrators including the current EEC staff.  The current format of EEC was a model that was created 38 years ago when instruction in our classes was largely whole group.  As we have updated our curriculum and shifted our instruction to a differentiated model in which a majority of instruction is delivered in small group, we needed to revisit the former model.  As it was originally constructed, EEC was a fee based, pull out model that provided enrichment to a small number of our students.  In the newer model, students remain in their buildings, and the enrichment opportunities are able to reach a much broader group of students.  Our instructional coaches at each building are implementing the curriculum to grade three students and have revised the units to align more closely with the new standards and student groups are flexible (meaning more students have opportunities to participate). Additionally, there is no fee allowing equity and access for all our students.

We did not eliminate any programming for students that were already participating in EEC; however, we did not enroll any new students in grades 4 and 5 to the current program.  We will be reflecting on the efficacy of the model as the "pilot" model in grade 3 progresses throughout the year and making that decision moving forward.
